Tax records indicate that John B. Oblinger built a substantial structure ($300), probably a house, on Lot 34 in 1848. By 1890, when the lot was owned by Samuel Groux, the value was reduced to $20, suggesting that this house had been removed. By 1915 the total value had increased to $360, which likely was when the two-story building once used as a Grange Hall was built. About 1935, the Grange Hall was torn down and a new store building for Edward Young was built by George Landefeld.

Oral History

At one time George and Christine Schraeder lived in the second floor of this building and dances were held on the first floor.

At one time Charlie Smith operated a store on this site, probably around 1910-1915 when he owned the lot. It is likely that the first floor of the two-story building was originally occupied as a store, and later used as dance hall/Grange hall.
