Lot 16

Tax records indicate that James W. Shankland built a house ($189) on this lot in 1847. By 1860 the value of the lot increased to $328, suggesting a new or remodeled structure (presumably that seen in the upper-right-hand corner of the above photo), which was torn down by Joseph Spangler about 1915 and replaced with the building that exists in 2007.

Oral History

Alice Boyle, granddaughter of Philip Wengert, recalled that at one time a Fahrenbach family lived on the corner lot (16) and that both this house and the so-called Red House next door were unpainted.
