Lot 2

Tax records indicate that William Reed built a log house, valued at $215 on Lot 2 in 1849. This was quite high for a log house; others are valued as low as $35. By 1860, when it was owned by John B. Oblinger, the value had dropped to $27, suggesting that this house had been removed or had deteriorated significantly in only 11 years. In 1885 the value increased to $110 and between 1885 and 1950 it varied from $10 to $80.

Oral history suggests that at some time Dr Johnson may have lived in a house on Lot 2; however, by the 1940s older residents could not recall a house on this lot—possibly a tobacco barn but no house.
