Tax records indicate that Jacob Walter built a structure ($130) on this lot in 1855 and that J. L. and L. C. Menkle replaced or built a new structure in 1895. This structure served as the Menkle Monument shop and remained in the Menkle family until about 1935. It existed in a much altered and deteriorated form until about 2005.
